In March 2014, at the height of the popularity of the hook-up application Tinder, The Guardian published the “Seven Shades of Cliché” of user profiles claiming that Humanitarians of Tinder are the “creepiest ticket yet to laidsville.” Humanitarians of Tinder are Tinder users (a hook-up application) who have selected to present images of themselves in humanitarian or volunteer settings outside of the West (or Global North, developed world). ![]() Through examining such negotiations and taking researcher identity as a central component of research processes, we center an aspect of ethnographic research that is largely elided in publishing. Negotiating our own identities with participants creates the potential for more relevant and reflexive insights that can enrich organizational communication inquiry. We grapple with and analyze the negotiation of firsthand accounts, illuminating how social identities not only are salient while conducting fieldwork but also shift and change over context and time, bringing forth meaningful theoretical and methodological nuances. Our work offers an important methodological contribution to enrich discus- sions of identity in organizational ethnography praxis. ![]() By engaging these topics from our respective positionings, we explore how fieldwork contexts interact with social identity/ies, ambivalently facilitating and hindering the research process. In this forum, we specifically explore the transversal issues of an ethnographer’s identity/ies across organizational contexts, including homeless shelters, employment agencies, African street markets and nongovernmental organizations (NGOs), exiled Cuban communities, education programs, and large corporations. I conclude by comparing the foreclosure of African perspectives from Afrofuturist texts with the foreclosure of African perspectives on aid in the present, arguing that decolonizing aid and theoretical relations to Africa in the future requires delinking from Western epistemological hegemony. I argue that these videos set a foundation for reframing present international aid relations in ways currently considered impossible, yet still do so by foreclosing African epistemologies. I examine six mock aid videos produced by the aid "solidarity" organization SAIH Norway (2018c) to reveal ways that these videos ask the audience to reconceptualize Western relationships to Sub-Saharan Africa by reframing environments, agencies, and knowledges. In all cases, the fan will not go faster than the maximum value or slower than the minimum value (except for some minor overshoot in either direction).Drawing from Afrofuturist and African theories that demonstrate the importance of reinterpreting the past in order to imagine (im)possible positions and relationships for women of color in the future, I look to reframings of the present in rhetorics of international aid work with Sub-Saharan Africa. Each method will realize the same fan speeds at the temperature endpoints but will have slightly different tracking characteristics between the two settings. If you choose to use variable speed then you must also use one of the other three methods to track the temperature. When controlling the fans you can choose either set the fan to constant speed or alternatively allow variable speed, tracking a selected temperature sensor between an upper and lower value. RPM/Temperature Trackingįan adjustment is enabled by checking the 'Modify Fan' checkbox. Default Operationīy default, Phantasmic operates in a monitor mode and makes no adjustments to your system fans, simply reporting the readings from the various sensors built into your Macintosh hardware. ![]() Phantasmic requires a small privileged helper program to make adjustments to the hardware settings. On the first run you will be prompted for your system administrator credentials. If you click on this menu you will see a number of commands allowing you to view more detailed information. There is no icon in the Dock, but instead a menu is added to the system menubar displaying a temperature and fan speed. Phantasmic is a system menubar application that monitors the temperature sensors of your Macintosh computer and optionally allows you to control the system fan(s).
